2. Who can fill in the entry form?
The online entry form can be completed by any person working within the business. This does not need to be the same person who will attend the interview with the judges, should a business reach this stage of the ACBAs.
3. What is the cost to enter the ACBAs?
The ACBAs are free to enter thanks to the generous support of our ACBA sponsors.
4. How do I choose which ACBA category to enter?
There are eight ACBA categories for 2019. We have ensured a breadth of categories to provide all businesses with an opportunity to demonstrate their excellence. You can actually enter up to three ACBA categories and are encouraged to do so. Entering more than one ACBA category will only increase your chances of winning an award.
Sometimes the judges decide that a business might have a better chance of winning in a different ACBA category from which it originally applied. They will inform businesses when this is the case.
5. What is the entry criteria?
The ACBAs are open to any company that carries out business in Australia and/or Greater China that is committed to furthering trade and investment ties between the two countries. The detailed eligibility criteria can be found here.
6. What are the criteria the judges are looking for?
At all stages in the process, the judges for the ACBAs are looking for businesses that demonstrate excellence and distinctiveness within their sector and the category for which they are applying.
7. How long does it take to apply for the 2019 ACBAs? Is it worth it?
The initial online entry form is extremely quick and straightforward. Simply answer a few questions about your business and tell us why you think you should win the ACBA category for which you’re applying, It shouldn’t take longer than 15 minutes.
The judges will review all entries, and those entries that are considered to meet the criterion of showing excellence and distinctiveness will be shortlisted. Shortlisted companies will be invited to submit further information (detailed under section 2.0 of the Judging Process). This will require a further time investment of approximately 1-2 hours.
The judges will use this further information to determine the Finalists, who will then be invited to attend an interview with the judges in Hong Kong.
8. What happens at the interview with the judges?
The judges meet with ACBA finalists to learn more about the businesses. It provides an opportunity for the judges to probe businesses and to identify those that really stand out in their respective category/categories. While it is possible to make a short 3 minute presentation, it is hoped that most of the time in this short interview will be spent responding to questions from the judges.
9. What if I can’t make it to the judging interview in person?
Finalists will be asked to meet with the judges for a 15 minute discussion about their business. These interviews will be held in Hong Kong in April 2019. While it is possible for those unable to attend to join by conference call, the judges have indicated that it is preferable to attend in person.
